Scientists at the University of Medical Sciences in Iran conducted a study on obese women. They devided the women in two groups, each consisting of 44 women.
The women were given less than 500 calories per day, and they were given only healthy foods.
Women in the first group recieved 3 grams of powdered cumin a day, combined with 140 grams of yogurt. The other group recieved the same quantity of yogurt, minus the cumin.
After three months, the results showed that those women who consumed yogurt in combination with cumin, lost about 14 pounds, when compared to those who consumed plain yogurt.
The research is even more notable considering the fact that the participants in the first group lost more fat 14.64% that the other group where the women lost 4.91% fat.
The most important thing you need to know is that the participants were losing weight due to fitosterol, a chemical plant, contained in cumin, which is know to prevent retention of cholesterol in the body. According to scientists, this is because cumin speeds up the metabolism.
